Festive Fun for all the family at the Thank Goodness It's Friday Event on 02/12/16

A huge
Thank you to the organisers of
Thank Goodness It's Friday Event on 02/12/16 in the ARM.
The children (and the adults!) had an absolute ball doing all the Christmas Crafts.
The Mess was made ready for the Christmas period with all halls dec'd and the trees twinkling. Turkey sandwiches, stollen, mince pies and much more meant that every taste was catered for.
I have added some pictures from the event.

Thanks again to the Mess Committee,
Cessacs for Catering and of course
our lovely bar staff.

It's probably nothing but.........

Spouses Claiming National Insurance credits

Whether you have been working in Cyprus or not, as a Service spouse or civil partner you will be able to claim National Insurance credits to maintain your National Insurance record for time spent accompanying your soldier in Cyprus post 6 April 2010.

These National Insurance credits will protect your entitlement to the basic state pension and certain contribution-based Social Security benefits such as Jobseeker’s Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance.
So, if you are leaving Cyprus soon (or at any time in the future) you are encouraged to apply for your credits by completing the form which can be found here.  You will need to have it verified by your welfare office.
Some spouses have been led to believe that they do not have to apply for the credits if they have been claiming state benefits whilst in Cyprus, for example Child Benefit, but that is not the case; irrespective of whether you have been claiming any state benefits or not you will still have to make a separate application for your National Insurance credits.

Storybook Soldiers

Have you heard about Storybook Soldiers?

Storybook Soldiers is a charitably funded volunteer scheme, which provides a link between parents and their children who are separated by military deployments or long exercises.

Soldiers are recorded reading a bedtime story for their children. Music and sound effects are added by trained volunteer editors who come from the military community.

The CD is sent to the child who can listen to it, not just at bedtime but on car journeys and at other times of the day.

If you would like to record a story for your child while deployed or on long exercise please contact me at the HIVE and I can arrange a time that suits you.

The Poppy Project

For Three Weeks in October a group of wives from the British Retained Site met weekly to crochet Poppy Badges for the Royal British Legion. The aim of the group was to crochet twenty poppies and sell them in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.
The Poppy Project was a huge success and all poppy badges were sold out within days of going on sale.
Extra poppies were made and to date we have raised over 150.
A huge thank you to Caren, Gemma, Jenni, Louise, Judith, Nikki, Sandra, Leanne and Harriet for participating. And a huge THANK YOU to everyone who bought our poppies.
